Chapter 605: Want to Play a Game?
Sang Zhe wandered around the market before finally spotting the two women near the Floating Splendor Commerce pavilion.
Zhang Xiaoying and Yan Rouwan seemed to have bought plenty of new clothes, not only carrying large bags but also sporting a fresh outfit themselves.
Yan Rouwan had finally shed the robe she’d been wearing since her awakening, now donned in a light purple flowing dress, and even styled her hair into a bun. This serene purple softened her ethereal aura, adding a touch of grace and elegance.
Zhang Xiaoying chose a bright, cheerful light yellow short dress, accentuating her legs with white stockings, making it impossible to tell she was already a mother; she looked just like a young and beautiful maiden.
Upon seeing Sang Zhe, Zhang Xiaoying’s eyes lit up: “Husband! You’re here to accompany us?”
“I had no choice,” Sang Zhe sighed dramatically. “How can I let my flower-like wife roam alone? I need to be her loyal flower protector!”
Zhang Xiaoying playfully replied with a smile, “You know how to say sweet things to win a girl’s heart.”
“But we’re old married folks now; this mushy stuff is still a bit awkward for me. How about you compliment Senior Sister Yan?”
After saying that, she mischievously winked at Yan Rouwan.
Yan Rouwan maintained her calm demeanor, but a slight smile betrayed her.
Sang Zhe glanced over at Yan Rouwan, but it was just a fleeting glance.
Then, he politely greeted, “Hello, Senior Sister Yan.”
Immediately after, he turned his attention back to Zhang Xiaoying.
The atmosphere felt a bit off.
Zhang Xiaoying looked back and forth between the two, bewildered, while Yan Rouwan suddenly felt a pang of disappointment.
In the end, Zhang Xiaoying broke the ice, “Husband, your timing is perfect! Senior Sister Yan and I were just worried about carrying too many bags.”
Sang Zhe deadpanned: “…So I’m just here to be your bag carrier?”
“Well, it’s great! Helping my wife with bags is my joy!” He stepped forward and expertly took the bags from Zhang Xiaoying, then turned politely to ask, “Senior Sister Yan, do you need help with yours as well?”
“…No, it’s fine.” Yan Rouwan turned away coolly, but her mind was racing with thoughts.
…Wait a minute.
Why is he so distant today?
Did I do something to upset him recently?
Yan Rouwan puzzled over it but couldn’t figure it out, staring at the sweet and affectionate Zhang Xiaoying and Sang Zhe while feeling a pang of bitterness.
No, I can’t rush this.
He said he would chase after me. Maybe he’s just testing my response.
I need to stay calm; he will eventually come to care for me.
With that thought, Yan Rouwan steadied her emotions and followed behind them nonchalantly.
—
As night fell, the market grew even busier.
After a long day’s work, most residents of Zhe Sang Town liked to go out to enjoy the nightlife, treating themselves after a tiring day.
As night falls, the street vendors also set up their stalls, and sometimes along the following street, there’d be all kinds of food stalls, with each one unique.
Sang Zhe kept Zhang Xiaoying company, checking in on her constantly and inquiring if she wanted to try any food while completely ignoring Yan Rouwan.
Neither Sang Zhe nor Yan Rouwan said a word, leaving her to endure the tantalizing aroma of various snacks as they walked past several stalls.
Zhang Xiaoying was busy trying to keep up with Sang Zhe while also chatting with Yan Rouwan to prevent the atmosphere from getting too awkward.
She couldn’t quite figure out why her husband was so cold to Yan Rouwan today.
“Hey, what’s this?”
They arrived at another stall, and both Zhang Xiaoying and Yan Rouwan were drawn to it.
“This is called pearl milk tea.”
The vendor, a young woman, smiled and said, “This is a brand-new drink launched by Floating Splendor Commerce, with a rich and smooth texture, sweet but not cloying, perfect for young people.”
“Would you ladies like to try it?”
Zhang Xiaoying seemed to notice Yan Rouwan swallow hard and immediately hooked her arm through Sang Zhe’s: “Husband, I want to try this dessert with Senior Sister Yan!”
“Sure!”
Sang Zhe, already used to milk tea, ordered three cups.
Holding the pearl milk tea, both women curiously inspected it, hesitatingly eyeing the black pearls bobbing in the drink. But their curiosity got the better of them, and they both took a big sip.
“Cough cough!”
Perhaps due to this being their first time, the two girls almost choked on the pearls, coughing uncontrollably.
“Cough cough… I think I drank too quickly.” Zhang Xiaoying scrunched her eyebrows, her lips forming a slight pout of regret.
Sang Zhe quickly came over and gently patted her back, saying softly, “Be careful; these little pearls can be eaten slowly. Don’t drink too fast or you’ll choke!”
Fortunately, Zhang Xiaoying only coughed a couple of times.
Upon receiving his concern, Zhang Xiaoying blinked her beautiful eyes and quietly remarked, “I know…but it looks like Senior Sister Yan choked worse. Aren’t you going to check on her, Husband?”
She shot a strong look at Sang Zhe.
Sang Zhe turned around.
Indeed, Yan Rouwan was coughing more vigorously, still appearing unwell after a long while.
So, Sang Zhe asked, “Senior Sister Yan, are you alright?”
“Not… cough cough… nothing wrong… cough.”
Yan Rouwan stammered between coughs, still looking quite uncomfortable.
However, when she stole a hopeful glance at Sang Zhe…
Sang Zhe replied, “Oh. As long as you’re okay.”
Then he turned back.
Suddenly, Yan Rouwan stopped coughing, her expression mixed with anger, disappointment, and a hint of dissatisfaction as her cheeks puffed out.
Hey!
I’m coughing like this, and you don’t even glance at me?
Just because I said I’m fine doesn’t mean I am!
You’re so gentle with Xiaoying—patting her back and caring for her. Why am I just getting a cold “you’re fine” response?
Unbeknownst to Yan Rouwan, her earlier façade of indifference began to crack, revealing her disappointment and resentment.
Her face showed her emotions, completely ditching her previous calm and ethereal expression.
She looked exactly like a jealous little girlfriend.
Zhang Xiaoying furrowed her brow, sensing the situation was more complicated.
…Something’s off.
Her husband’s attitude is clearly strange.
Could it be that he and Senior Sister Yan had a fight?
That can’t happen!
As the main wife, it was her duty to maintain harmony in the harem. If her husband really had a misunderstanding with Yan Rouwan, she’d be failing in her role!
I need to think of a way to mend the rift between them and bring them back together.
Just then, they passed by a Floating Splendor Commerce hotel across the road.
Zhang Xiaoying’s eyes lit up as she suddenly tugged on Sang Zhe’s arm: “Husband, let’s go get a room!”
Sang Zhe: “?”
Yan Rouwan: “?”
