Chapter 189

As soon as I received 200 gold, I rented a private training room at the guild. Of course, in Benny’s name, since it’s the most secure.

I pushed Benny away, who seemed to want to follow me naturally.

“Uh…?”

Benny looked dazed, like someone who laid down for a quick break and lost track of four hours.

I smiled at her and pushed a little harder.

“From here on, Benny is banned from entering.”

“I-I rented it in my name?!”

“But I can’t show you what’s inside, right?”

“Who says that?!”

“It’s right here. I’m not just saying it for fun; it’s really something I can’t show to anyone.”

“…To anyone?”

Benny hesitated for a moment. A mischievous smile twisted her lips. Uh-oh… that’s the expression when she’s thinking something naughty!

“Impudent Benny. What on earth were you thinking just now? Did you think I was doing something lewd with the Goddess of Love? Oh my. It’s like you think I’m selling my body to the goddess!”

“A-Ah, no! I didn’t think that?!”

“Hmm. Did you know? Benny has a habit of twitching her left lip when she’s flustered.”

“……!”

Benny hurriedly clenched her lips, making a strangely awkward expression, and I giggled while patting her shoulder.

“Just kidding. But the way your lips are stiff doesn’t seem like a joke…”

“Ah.”

Only then did Benny realize she’d been played and looked shocked. I brought my lips close to her ear and whispered.

“To commit both blasphemy and slander against me at the same time… truly creepy witch Benny. You just acted like a total witch!”

“I-I swear it’s not like that…”

Benny shriveled up like a salted slug in an instant. I pushed her away again.

“Tap.”

This time, Benny stepped back without any resistance. I waved lightly at her.

“This is also a joke. It shouldn’t take too long, so just wait outside for a bit.”

“……”

I entered the training room, leaving Benny nodding dumbly behind me.

“Get out too.”

I stepped on Shadow, who was sneaking in pretending to be my shadow, and sent him away.

Only after confirming they were both out did I carefully lock the door and took out the goddess statue from my pocket.

Did it just overhear our conversation? The goddess statue was making a coin gesture with her thumb and forefinger.

It seemed like she was asking how much. I chuckled and gave her hair a gentle tug.

Her unnecessarily soft texture put me in a good mood.

“That money. It’s not like I didn’t give it to you, right? It’s not for sale anyway. By the way, you seem to have been eavesdropping, so you kinda know the situation, right? I’m counting on you for things specialized in hunting the undead.”

I had blown 100 gold on gacha last time and had recovered that much, so isn’t this a good time to push my luck again?

Of course, upon hearing this, the goddess statue started to tremble.

…Well, from her perspective, it must feel like after getting a break, I’m telling her to get back to work, huh?

With a bit of guilt, I gently stroked her head for a moment.

“But if I’m spending 200 gold, wouldn’t I normally get at least one or two four-stars?”

I honestly don’t expect a five-star. How much have I spent so far? Other than the Avatar of Love, I’ve never gotten one!

Looking at the power of the Avatar of Love or the names of the five-stars that occasionally pop up in the lineup, each one seems to be ludicrously powerful, so I somewhat understand why they’re not easy to pull.

“So how about keeping the odds the same? But just adjust the pull so that the things with effects against the undead appear more frequently?”

This way, the load on the Goddess of Love would be minimized.

…Honestly, I’m a bit worried about how much money I’d have to pour in to normalize things after manipulating 200 gold.

The goddess statue went into deep thought; her usual faint halo completely vanished, then she flickered with a brightness several times stronger.

Looks like it’s possible enough.

Letting out a sigh of relief, I set the goddess statue down in a corner. Then, holding up the gold pouch I had just unwrapped… no, invested, I opened the gacha screen.

Ding!

[Regular Gacha]
– Spend cash or equivalent magic stone to randomly obtain items or skills between 1 to 5 stars.

[Single Gacha] [10+1 Gacha]

[Pickup Gacha]
– Spend cash or equivalent magic stone to randomly obtain items or skills between 1 to 5 stars.
– Pickup targets: [4-star skill: Mayna’s Swordsmanship], [5-star: Demon Blade – Fang of the Devourer].
– Remaining time: 18 days, 2 hours, 23 minutes.
[Single Gacha] [10+1 Gacha]

The swordsmanship pickup period hasn’t ended yet. However, a faint noise started and suddenly the content changed, and the gacha screen opened again.

Zzzzzz….

– Pickup targets: [4-star: Magic – Radiance of Purification], [5-star Ability: Master of the Skeleton Throne].
– Remaining time: 18 days, 2 hours, 22 minutes.
[Single Gacha] [10+1 Gacha]

The pickup content has changed. I wonder if I can use power in this way too.

With a look of discovering a writer who squeezes out manuscripts, I licked my lips at the goddess statue for a moment.

Perhaps sensing something ominous or simply tired, the halo completely faded and the goddess statue entered sleep mode.

“Well… good work. Now it’s my turn.”

I tucked the goddess statue back into my pocket and examined the changed pickup content.

A 4-star pickup is magic. From the name, I can kind of guess what it is.

Wouldn’t it be similar to the purification power contained in the Unicorn’s Horn? Depending on how it’s used, it might have a good synergy.

What caught me off guard was the 5-star pickup.

No matter how I looked at it, it seemed more like an ultimate skill from the Necromancer tree than a true undead counter.

But the goddess wouldn’t suddenly make me suffer, or would she just throw anything in there since five stars probably won’t come out anyway?

If I had to guess, it’s an ability specialized for controlling the undead.

If it has the power to control even the monsters of the fourth floor, it could be considered a true undead counter in that sense.

“Let’s think about the details later after pulling! Let’s go!”

Clutching the money pouch, I began hammering the gacha button.

Ding!

[2-star: Ability – Divine Bloodline]

“Oh?”

Two 4-stars, huh?

Compared to when the goddess actively pushed, the results are a bit meager, but still, this much should be worth 200 gold to me right now.

All the gacha results are solely focused on beating the undead.

However, there’s something else I need to do. One out of the 4-stars is an item, but the other one is a magic skill, right?

I barely survived getting a 3-star magic skill; what’s going to happen if I get a 4-star? I’m going to feel like dying, that’s for sure.

Since I’ve been at this for days, I mentally prepared myself. And then…

“KYAAAAAAHHH!!!”

No matter how much I prepared myself, it still hurt.

I felt something like it was bursting from inside my heart. The agony from my brain and a peculiar exhilaration coexisted, and how many times did my consciousness melt away?

“Ugh!”

Finally, my body adapted to the forcibly increased mana.

Lying on the ground, I gasped for breath and randomly gobbled up mana herbs and recovery herbs.

My body quickly began to stabilize. Once I calmed down a bit, I checked the gacha results.

“Wow, there are a lot of Holy Waters.”

If I had to pick the most cost-effective consumable for facing the undead, I can confidently say Holy Water would win unanimously.

Just drinking it can alleviate the mental contamination caused by the undead’s unique deceitful aura, it deals damage to the undead when sprayed, and when applied to equipment, it temporarily grants the ability to perform exorcisms.

Of course, it doesn’t only respond to undead but to all things corrupted and evil.

However, the reaction is dramatically pronounced in the undead, so it’s essentially treated as an essential item against them.

Naturally, the more Holy Water, the better. The High-grade Holy Water being 4-stars goes without saying.

Aside from that, I got a Wrist Crossbow. If I can break through one more time, it’ll help with strengthening, but the structure will become more complex, thus maximizing the effect of Argetlam.

In between, a hard stone-like Platypus heart came out, but it’s not that useful, so I shoved it into my subspace pocket.

Speaking of useless, what is Holy Water flavored bottled water even?

Out of curiosity, I drank it, and a somewhat salty taste hit my palate. And that was it.

“Hmm… Let’s check the next one.”

Ultimately, three new things I need to check out:
2-star: Ability – Divine Bloodline
3-star: Ability – Beloved by Death
4-star: Magic – Radiance of Purification

First, I took a look at the Divine Bloodline.

“…Huh?”

Despite its grand name, there was a reason for its vague 2-star rating.

…Maybe I should have just asked for everything to be manipulated instead?
