Chapter 0

When I was young, I was terrified of needles.

To be honest, I still am.

Who would enjoy having something sharp jabbed into their body?

But I can’t help it.

There aren’t many ways to administer medicine.

I tilted the syringe and inserted it into my bandaged arm.

Ugh.

I absolutely cannot get used to jabbing my own arm with a needle.

Once the injection was done, I felt a bit dazed for a moment.

[8 hours]

Then, a small screen appeared in the corner of my vision.

It meant I could stay conscious for about 8 more hours.

[7 hours 59 minutes]

One minute down.

My mind is a bit foggy.

Who on earth has a screen like this popping up in front of their eyes?

You’d have to be seriously crazy to live like this.

But it’s only possible in a world like a novel.

It’s kind of similar to the protagonist always pulling up their status window.

“Alright.”

Getting the medicine makes me feel a bit better.

My mind feels peaceful.

As long as the medicine doesn’t run out, I’ll be fine.

Getting healthy is a nice thing.

Given how bad I felt before taking the medicine, it’s definitely true.

What happens when the medicine runs out?

I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

If I can think at all, that is.

Some medicine doesn’t even need a syringe.

You can just swallow it like a pill.

When I can’t use a syringe, I can buy myself about 15 minutes with the pills I swallow.

So as long as I pack some emergency pills, I can manage to go out somehow.

“Very nice.”

I grin at my reflection in the mirror.

The brown-haired girl in the mirror smiles back.

Her long hair flows down to her shoulders.

This girl’s name is Yoo Seo-Ah.

About middle school age.

She isn’t half bad looking.

Though her clothes are a bit dirty, which is a downside.

The mirror had cracks in it.

That happened when I punched it after not taking enough medicine last time.

Thanks to that, I got a cut from the glass and had to wrap my arm.

Honestly, I was pretty mad back then.

I had come into a novel, and how did I end up in this kind of story?

Not to mention, I became the protagonist’s dying childhood friend.

Why did they have to change my gender, anyway?

So I was thinking about just treating it as a dream and dying.

“Right now, I definitely don’t want to die. I’m happy.”

I smiled at the mirror.

I felt so happy, it was almost tingling.

In the story, Yoo Seo-Ah had already died from a drug overdose.

Or maybe she died because she ran out of medicine.

Using it thoughtlessly can lead to that.

Either way, the important thing is that unlike in the novel, I’m still alive.

I looked at the table and saw 10 pills.

Each one buys me about 15 minutes.

The medicine for the syringe is in little glass bottles.

Once I inject it, I can gain about 8 hours.

And five painkillers.

These are good for taking when I feel sick sometimes.

They also improve my mood even more.

This is all the medicine I have left.

I’ve saved every bit to get to this point.

Long term, running out of medicine isn’t a great situation…

Hehe.

For some reason, I feel good and can’t stop smiling.

Maybe it’s because I took the medicine?

That can’t be it.
