Chapter 269
Chapter 269 This Time It’s My Turn
Ling Mo and the others left.
They didn’t bother waiting for the Fire Cloud Cult people; that would just be beneath them.
Ling Mo’s plan was simple: once they discovered what had happened at the bar, they would surely seek revenge. It would be easier to deal with them when they came knocking.
The next match for the God of War Cup was in the afternoon; they had to take care of this matter before then to avoid any future troubles.
As for whether their previous actions were too conspicuous… Ling Mo actually wanted it to be noticeable.
Just as Xia Xinyan said, after this incident, they could no longer remain low-key—unless they wanted to endure further bullying, and they certainly didn’t want that.
Since they planned to retaliate, they had to see it through to the end, leaving no room for negotiation. That was the most correct way to go about it.
If they gave a meager return gift, it might not even warrant the other party’s attention and could even make them seem incompetent; therefore, there was no way they could keep it low-key while giving a moderate response.
So, they might as well go all out. This time, their target wasn’t just the Fire Cloud Cult but every other organization that heard about this—while they wouldn’t proactively provoke anyone, anyone who dared to mess with their Chicks would not be allowed to escape.
This was meant to serve as a warning and an example. Ling Mo was mentally prepared for any potential consequences. It could either intimidate all the smaller organizations into submission or invite more trouble—after all, there would always be some fools who wouldn’t heed warnings.
If trouble came, they could just resort to violence again.
Now that they were involved, there was no way to back out cleanly, especially since it was clear someone was targeting them. It was impossible to stay aloof. They might as well charge ahead boldly; anyone who dared to reach out would be cut down.
They were just easy-going people, but they had never been easy to mess with.
—But the fat guy wasn’t having a great time: “I can sense a big problem coming.”
“What else would you have us do in retaliation?” Back at the Chicks, sitting in the conference room, Ling Mo looked at the pondering fat guy and countered.
Monica nodded, “I actually think Old Ling’s approach is pretty straightforward. If someone hits, hit back; what’s there to be afraid of?”
“Easier said than done,” the fat guy shot a glance at Monica and sighed, “We’ve pretty much made sure to build enemies. Those organizations we haven’t come into contact with will probably have a bad impression of us now… and you’re all just out there publically killing so many people at the bar, don’t you fear this escalating?”
“I called my brother. He’ll handle this,” Xia Xinyan said with a rather mysterious expression.
—Of course, it was mysterious; she had just acted cute to Summer Jincang for the first time.
Even she felt a bit goosebumps from that.
But it had to be said that Summer Jincang was completely into this kind of thing.
The punks who died in the bar were relatively easy to deal with; the key issue lay with all the bystanders in the bar at the time. They needed to carefully monitor any footage these people might have recorded—what could be released and what needed to be destroyed; it required some finesse.
The so-called surface peace simply meant no one had exposed the issues publicly; as long as that premise was maintained, even if things escalated, it wouldn’t be a huge problem.
The fat guy rubbed his face, looking even more troubled: “I was planning on taking things slow and steady, and now it’s been yanked up to nightmare difficulty—look, I don’t even have any abilities yet. If it comes to a fight, you all will have to step in for me; as long as you don’t mind, I don’t care.”
“We’re all members of this organization,” Xia Xinyan commented without much concern. “If there’s any trouble you can’t handle, just come to us.”
“Good, I’ll hold you to that.” The fat guy rubbed his hands together, “I’ll have someone keep an eye on the situation over there. I’ll let you know as soon as there are any updates—probably won’t take long. After being slapped so hard in the face, I doubt anyone can keep it bottled up for a day.”
Ling Mo nodded, “We’ll wait for your news.”
Actually, when they left, he had already set up several surveillance cameras in the hotel—those were materialized by him. He could make them disappear with just a flick of his finger; they were essentially built-in eyes. However, if the fat guy sends someone in, it would just add an extra layer of security, which he wouldn’t refuse.
With the plan settled, there was no need to linger. After giving the fat guy a chance to deal with the matters in the organization, Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan returned home.
Monica chose to stay at the organization to watch the show—she seemed quite interested in this small-scale conflict. In her own words, “These are rare firsthand materials that can fetch quite a bit of money.”
Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo didn’t mind her; keeping her in the organization was a form of insurance.
When they got home, they happened to run into Summer Jincang coming back. When they met, Summer Jincang was taken aback for two seconds before habitually smiling at his sister: “Xinyan, I’ve handled what you mentioned earlier. Don’t worry.”
He had always had someone keep an eye on Xia Xinyan’s movements, and he quickly learned about the bar incident, even before she called him for help—though he was pretty surprised that his sister would pull such a stunt, hearing her ask for help for the first time in over half a year made him immediately agree to assist.
This was a rare opportunity to strengthen their sibling bond.
As he spoke, he shot a glance at Ling Mo.
Tch, what good is this guy’s strength? He still doesn’t have the power to help his sister with these problems.
Ling Mo just smiled back at him.
Xia Xinyan slightly nodded, grateful as she said, “Thanks, brother.”
“No worries, it’s what I should do.” Summer Jincang immediately replied, “If you ever run into trouble you can’t handle, come to me. I’ll do my best to help.”
“Okay, we won’t disturb you any longer. We’ll head inside now.” After Xia Xinyan said that, she grabbed Ling Mo and went into the house.
Summer Jincang waved at them with a smile.
But the moment the door closed, his face drooped down.
He felt like a tool.
But since it was his sister… he willingly accepted it.
With a sigh, he returned indoors to handle his matters.
On the other side, after entering the house, Xia Xinyan flopped down on the sofa, staring out the balcony window, a bit lost in thought.
Ling Mo sat down beside her and whispered, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Xia Xinyan tilted her head to glance at Ling Mo, murmuring, “I just suddenly realize this world is becoming more familiar.”
Ling Mo paused.
He understood what she meant.
She had been reborn from the apocalypse.
And now, this world was gradually heading in that direction.
After a moment of silence, he silently took Xia Xinyan’s hand: “This time it’s different; you have me with you.”
