Chapter 311

Chapter 311 Ling Mo’s Battle Armor

She almost got blinded a moment ago.

But speaking of which, she had always been quite curious about the effects and functions of the inventions Ling Mo was tinkering with. After all, inventing relies on imagination. Even though Xia Xinyan’s memory contains similar abilities as his, she really hadn’t seen him materialize anything resembling the things she used to play with during their time together.

The only similarity was modern technology’s inventions, like regular firearms, which didn’t require much imagination since there were ready-made references.

However, one thing she had to admit was that Ling Mo’s creativity and manifestation skills seemed to have surpassed her past self.

Even though she hadn’t seen him materialize a space carrier yet, just this armor that looked like something out of a Steel Man movie was beyond anything she had ever thought of in her previous life.

Especially now, seeing the energy core transformed into a Flash Blinding Light, her curiosity about this thing even temporarily surpassed her concern about the invasion itself.

Unable to resist, she asked, “Does this battle armor have that function as well?”

“Of course,” Ling Mo nodded, seemingly unfazed, “the battles we face can be quite complex. Simply adding more attack means to the armor isn’t necessarily the best choice. I’ve been thinking of how to incorporate more practical functions into the armor—like lighting.”

Or rather, blinding.

The real purpose of this Flash Blinding Light was to suddenly disorient opponents during a fight. As long as the enemy relied on sight, it would surely create a significant impact. This was a strategy, at least much more useful than just stacking up attacks.

But that time was the first he used this feature, and he remembered he set it to one hundred thousand lumens…

Back to the armor itself, this could be seen as a compromise for his abilities’ shortcomings.

Although his abilities were strong in certain aspects, his physical strength wasn’t high—like those demons he encountered in the Dark Zone; a couple of hits from them would have been more than he could handle.

This was a common shortcoming of non-physically-enhanced ability users, so to compensate for this, he created the armor.

He remembered it was inspired by the mech he had back then. Initially, he tried significantly enlarging it and redesigning its internal structure; although it didn’t yield significant results, he still succeeded. So, he based his ideas on this and began brainstorming a small battle armor. After all, not every environment could accommodate such a large mech for fighting. A single-soldier battle armor like Steel Man’s was the most useful.

After successfully materializing the battle armor, he began to think of all sorts of bizarre functions to add to it. He wasn’t afraid of not being able to use them, but he was worried about regretting not having them when the time came. As long as the fundamental combat ability and defense were guaranteed, he had a stage for design.

At one point, he even planned to equip the armor with artificial intelligence. However, perhaps the AI he envisioned truly exceeded realistic limits… it might even have touched upon the realm of new life. So, either he ended up with something that didn’t meet his requirements or just a piece of scrap metal with programmed code that couldn’t function—similar to the warm corpse Xia Xinyan had created in her previous life.

So Ling Mo ultimately abandoned that direction and continued to focus on peculiar functions.

Including some utterly useless things, like—

Ling Mo raised his right hand, and suddenly, a holographic projection appeared above his wrist—a tiny Xia Xinyan, doing all sorts of cute antics.

The real Xia Xinyan beside him: “…”

“Ahem,” Ling Mo stopped the holographic projection with a smile, “we might have times when we need to act separately. I worry I might miss you, and this could help alleviate that feeling.”

Xia Xinyan: “…”

Is it really necessary?

She felt that Ling Mo was acting a bit obsessive right now!

Could it be that she hadn’t satisfied him enough?

“Do you want to see more functions, Xinyan?” Ling Mo asked.

“…No need,” Xia Xinyan immediately shook her head, “let’s quickly resolve the situation here.”

Her emotions were a bit complex at the moment.

Seeing her reaction, Ling Mo merely smiled lightly and looked ahead: “It seems this area doesn’t swallow light, but the reason it’s still so dark… could it be a power outage?”

It seemed that not many modern urban households kept flashlights anymore, as they rarely needed them most of the time. Even if they did, whether they dared to use them in such a situation was another question.

The most pressing concern was—what exactly was the impact of this area? How significant was the threat to people?

Moreover, the two of them, being almost the only source of light in this area, had been wandering around for a while. If there was danger, it wouldn’t make sense for it not to come looking for trouble.

“That’s a good sign,” Xia Xinyan squinted slightly, “the impact of rule invasion usually isn’t instant. This gives those caught in it a chance to escape. The fact that it seems relatively safe here suggests the situation hasn’t worsened.”

After all, it had only been about two hours since the incident began. At least with the precautions taken by the Summer Family back then, even without preparation, people reacted swiftly after trouble arose.

“Anyway, let’s find Tang Tang first.” Xia Xinyan looked at the navigation on her Mobile Offline Map, “We’re not far from our destination, just two more turns…”

Before she could finish, a sharp scream suddenly pierced the air from above.

The two instinctively looked up, only to see a bat silhouette larger than a human swoop down and seem to be approaching them.

“Is it coming?” Ling Mo frowned slightly, directly materializing a single-soldier tracking missile.

Before he could make his next move, Xia Xinyan suddenly pulled him to the side: “Watch out!”

Immediately afterward, a rapid series of gunshots rang out ahead, with bullets landing precisely where they had just been standing. Had they been a moment slower, they would have been greeted with a barrage.

Ling Mo quickly reacted, materializing a shield to protect them, and almost at that moment, another round of bullets rained down on the shield.

At the same time, Ling Mo spotted the shooter—

A towering man, about twice their height, had his right arm completely transformed into a revolving machine gun and continued firing at them.

Ling Mo immediately activated the battle armor’s built-in loudspeaker and shouted, “We’re allies! Don’t shoot!”

However, the man continued to fire indiscriminately, seemingly not hearing his words.

Xia Xinyan furrowed her brow: “Something’s off, he’s not a normal human.”
