Chapter 37
Chapter 037 Do You Lack Accessories?
Looking back now, Ling Mo… or rather, the former version of himself, was quite an interesting character.
Most of the time, he was calm enough to analyze nearly everything he encountered with near-rationality, and thanks to that, he avoided a fair amount of trouble—this has been mentioned before.
But in certain special situations, Ling Mo would show a completely different side.
One could call it… a passionate state.
For example, in high school fights… though more frequently, it appeared when playing games—like winning ten matches in a row during ranked play, which made him feel pretty good about himself, and then he gradually became reckless.
The most direct manifestation was that he no longer acted as rationally as usual, becoming more instinctive; it was like his body took over his mind rather than the other way around.
But it’s not that he became more impulsive in such situations; rather, the opposite happened. He became even calmer, able to analyze the pros and cons of the information related to the current event and act accordingly—in other words, he immersed himself entirely in the moment, subconsciously ignoring information that wasn’t pertinent.
His body would tell his mind what to do next, then the mind would determine the most advantageous course of action—this state differed from his usual one mainly in that he wouldn’t consider all the consequences of his actions, concentrating solely on how to achieve his goals.
Most people experience this state while gaming, but Ling Mo was even more extreme, able to apply this state to battles.
That wasn’t something you often saw.
Ling Mo entering this state in the second dungeon was good news for Xia Xinyan; it indicated he was adapting to the game faster than her past life… perhaps even without her guidance, this version of Ling Mo would reach a higher position.
… She was a bit annoyed.
If she had someone like Miss Xia courting her in her past life, she might have performed even better than this guy.
So why did it have to be her as Miss Xia?
She admitted she was jealous.
Ling Mo, however, was completely oblivious to the resentful thoughts behind him. Fueled by a resolute determination, he stormed into the Office Hall and bumped right into a few clerical police officers inside.
Seeing two strangers burst in with guns, the officers were momentarily stunned: “Who are you?”
Ling Mo fired a shot at the ceiling without wasting any words: “Where’s the weapons storage point of the police station? If you don’t want to die, take us there!”
“Y-you know where this is?” An older female officer was shocked, “Do you realize you’re committing a crime?!”
Ling Mo shot her a look and suddenly aimed his gun at a young officer nearby, sternly declaring: “Where’s the weapons storage? I’ll give you ten seconds to answer, or his head goes kaboom.”
“Stop! I’ll tell you!” The female officer immediately gave in, “I can take you there! Don’t kill him!”
Currently, there were only clerical staff in the police station, and faced with Ling Mo’s gun, they had no capacity for resistance.
Ling Mo didn’t give them a hard time: “We only need weapons. Cooperate, and we’ll leave as soon as we have what we want. Be smart; don’t do anything stupid.”
“I… I’ll take you.” The female officer hesitated for a moment, then turned to lead them in a direction.
However, before exiting the Office Hall, Xia Xinyan suddenly stepped in front of her, smiling gently: “Don’t be afraid, we just want some weapons for self-defense; we won’t hurt you.”
As she spoke, she locked eyes with the female officer, performing a mental charm.
Instantly, the officer relaxed: “Okay… okay, I’ll cooperate with you.”
Ling Mo didn’t notice this small detail, but he was slightly warmed by her action.
This is what an angel looks like…
He didn’t want to be the villain, but to save time, he felt he had no other choice.
He hoped Xia Xinyan wouldn’t misunderstand him.
The female officer quickly brought them to the police station’s weapons storage, but there were hardly any guns or ammunition left; besides that, there were also some batons that could serve as defensive weapons. Xia Xinyan grabbed a backpack and stuffed in all the useful items. After loading a handgun with bullets, she prepared to leave: “Let’s go; there’s nothing good leftover here.”
Ling Mo nodded, and then seemed to think of something, turning to the female officer standing helplessly beside them: “The situation outside is dangerous; you can take some defensive weapons to protect yourselves.”
Having said that, he left with Xia Xinyan.
Although he knew this was just a game dungeon, and the humans were all NPCs created by the game, in such a realistic scenario, he couldn’t help but see them as real people.
Thus, after playing the villain briefly, he felt a bit guilty inside.
Not to mention, he did it in front of Xia Xinyan.
So, leaving that parting line could lessen his guilt somewhat and patch up his image.
Luckily, Xia Xinyan didn’t overthink it: “I was just wondering how to find the weapon storage earlier. Well… you are much better at this than I am.”
Hearing this, Ling Mo paused, giving an awkward smile: “It’s just that this feels more efficient; I didn’t really want to be the bad guy…”
“I know,” Xia Xinyan nodded, “I trust you. Besides, you didn’t hurt anyone, right?”
“Um… yeah.” Ling Mo replied a couple of times, saying no more.
Xia Xinyan really understood him well…
In this society, such a good girl was indeed rare.
With him running into her, he seemed to have no reason not to cherish it.
Outside the police station, things had gotten a lot more chaotic. They could see people writhing in pain on the ground everywhere.
And just coincidentally, as they stepped outside, a heavyweight figure came charging toward the police station.
Instinctively, Ling Mo raised his gun, but before he even had the chance to pull the trigger, a frightened voice yelled from ahead: “Wait! Don’t shoot! Friend!”
That line hit him with déjà vu, causing him to hesitate for a few seconds.
Then both of them saw who the approaching heavyweight figure was.
The fat guy.
“Old Ling?! Damn, you guys are more efficient than I am.” The fat guy huffed for breath, then glanced at the backpack Ling Mo was carrying, not concealing his thoughts at all: “Given that, I’ll speak honestly—do you lack a leg accessory?”
Ling Mo paused, instinctively glancing back at Xia Xinyan.
Even though the fat guy was his high school classmate, right now, he cared more about Xia Xinyan’s feelings.
If she wasn’t willing, he would choose to ignore the fat guy.
—Is this putting romance above friendship?
Fortunately, Xia Xinyan, quite “understanding,” simply smiled and nodded: “Sure, we’ve got plenty of weapons; we can spare some for you.”
“Can you really spare me some?!” At that moment, another voice piped in, tense and eager.
Turning to look, Murong Yue was sitting in Ling Mo’s car, looking up at them with wide eyes, forlorn and helpless.
Weak, pitiful, and utterly lost.
He didn’t even know when she got in.
Xia Xinyan: “…”
She felt if they took any longer to come out, that car might just disappear.
