Chapter 386
Chapter 386 The Old Trickster Boy
Bai Yan and Xia Xinyan stared dumbfounded.
They watched as Ling Mo shot wildly at the mass below, causing explosions that sent the gathered monsters flying in all directions. The high platform they stood on shook violently, making them fear for their own safety, worried that it might collapse beneath them.
Fortunately, the battleground below had already been reduced to ruins, far enough from the surrounding houses. Ling Mo’s chaos wouldn’t accidentally harm any innocents, but the stadium, which had still held a glimmer of hope for reconstruction, was now likely a total loss.
Not necessarily, though. After this event passes, with a bit of water and some trees planted, it could very well turn into an artificial lake in the city.
So, technically, he was contributing to environmental beautification as a preliminary effort.
After one firework show finished, he promptly conjured up several more, all of which were inserted at the edges of the stage, letting these grand fireworks commence a free-for-all shooting spree below.
At this moment, Bai Yan finally snapped back to reality: “You… are really impressive.”
Wasn’t he? Even if a regular person had this ability, they probably wouldn’t think of doing something like this.
And the critical point was that he indeed found the loophole.
Ling Mo just smiled, then walked over to Xia Xinyan and instinctively supported her as he looked for the chubby guy: “How’s everything else in the city? Any discoveries?”
“Damn, before that, what’s going on over there with you? Aren’t bombs forbidden?” the chubby guy exclaimed, shocked.
Initially, upon witnessing the explosion in the city, he thought it was a magical attack conjured by Ling Mo. But this continuous racket could be heard even at the Chicks Base, half a city away. Was there truly anything that could restrain that guy from blowing things up?
“Yeah, so I didn’t use bombs. I used fireworks instead,” Ling Mo casually explained. “What about you? Any findings?”
“…You really are a little genius,” the chubby guy couldn’t help but admire, before continuing, “There’s definitely been a discovery: There seem to be particularly many demons in the southern part of the city; most are coming from there. It wasn’t too obvious before, but now that you’re drawing all that aggro, it’s become apparent. I’ve already sent the brothers to check it out, and we’ll be heading over soon—are you coming?”
Ling Mo looked at Bai Yan.
Bai Yan nodded: “I’ll go.”
“Alright,” Ling Mo responded. “We’re on our way.”
After hanging up the communication, he instinctively reached to pick up Xia Xinyan, causing her to take a step back: “Wait, I can walk on my own.”
He and Xia Xinyan locked gazes for a second, and he smiled slightly: “It’s quite high here; I’m worried it’s dangerous for Xinyan to jump down, so I’ll just carry her.”
Xia Xinyan: “……”
Suddenly, she felt that Ling Mo was doing it on purpose.
Or maybe she was just a bit paranoid.
In fact, many of the things Ling Mo did made sense, and they were undoubtedly the best responses to the situation. However, the effects of those methods often led her to voluntarily follow him along.
Take this instance, for example: standing on the high platform really could prevent them from being surrounded by demons and also spread their voices further, drawing the monsters effectively. But when it came time to retreat… she found herself at a loss.
Even as a cat girl, there was no way she could jump down from dozens of meters without getting hurt, not to mention that below were hordes of demons and fireworks blasting everywhere. Plus, she couldn’t switch to her cat girl form right now—out of consideration for her hearing, given the circumstances, it truly seemed she could only let Ling Mo take her down.
Though she wasn’t too keen on it, knowing the urgent matter at hand, she walked up to Ling Mo: “Fine.”
Ling Mo smiled and effortlessly picked her up, acting as if he had done it countless times—well, he kind of had… but even after doing it so many times, Xia Xinyan still felt a bit unaccustomed.
She wasn’t used to being the weak one being protected or even pampered by someone else; it always made her feel like she had turned into a mascot.
But discomfort aside, she had to do what needed to be done, so she awkwardly wrapped her arms around Ling Mo’s neck.
Ling Mo’s smile deepened a bit.
At the same time, many white lines appeared behind him, eventually materializing into a flying backpack—this contraption had no weapon functions but could be used normally.
After thinking for a moment, he suddenly turned to Bai Yan: “Do you want one? Easy mode?”
Bai Yan stared at the backpack for two seconds before nodding.
Then a jetpack appeared behind her as well.
Seeing this, Xia Xinyan immediately said: “Then give one to me as well…”
“Hold on tight, Xinyan, we’re off!” Ling Mo activated the flying backpack, soaring off the high platform.
Xia Xinyan: “……”
Now she was sure Ling Mo was doing it on purpose.
Bai Yan also activated her jetpack, following behind the two. The speakers on stage continued to attract the demons, and amid all this chaos, the three of them left without drawing too much attention—though the fireworks set up on the stage would likely keep firing until the very end of this incident.
Although the chubby guy only mentioned heading west, the trio hardly ventured far in that direction before they encountered the main army—mainly because it was so conspicuous. The entire western area of the city was practically devastated, with countless abilities users and demons engaged in chaotic battle—this was likely the second largest battlefield in the city besides the stadium.
As soon as the trio landed, they were met by the chubby guy—accompanied by Monica, Xiaobai, and that fox.
“I saw you flying from afar,” the chubby guy remarked as he stroked his chin. “You didn’t run into any flying monsters? Lucky you.”
“Alright, what’s going on here?” Ling Mo set Xia Xinyan down, surveying the surroundings with a frown.
“Ah… in street terms, this is a monster spawn zone, which the brothers below have blocked off. Then it escalated into a fight—resulting in more and more monsters, forcing the brothers to call for reinforcements, which only increased the number of monsters more and more, leading to a situation where no one can leave now.”
They were all mutually stuck.
Xia Xinyan then looked at Monica: “What brings you out here?”
This girl had been more engrossed in research ever since she encountered that fox—mainly due to discovering even more wealth, to the point that they rarely saw her. Unexpectedly, she had actively come out this time.
“Didn’t I stay stuck at home for too long and come out to move around?” Monica smiled. “Plus, the commotion here… is rather interesting. I came to take a look and lend a hand.”
“How?” Xia Xinyan raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Well, that depends on how you want me to help,” Monica answered ambiguously.
Bai Yan surveyed them for a moment before speaking: “Since you’ve already identified the monster spawn point, let’s trace back and see if we can discover anything.”
Ling Mo nodded: “That’s what I think too.”
However, most of their brothers were entrapped right here, so it seemed this time it would just be them few going forward.
That’s fine; an elite squad!
